MICHAELA 'MICKEY' SHUNICK - UPDATED AUGUST 18TH 2012

Police are searching for a 21-year-old college student who went missing in Louisiana after leaving a friend's house in the early hours of Saturday.

Michaela "Mickey" Shunick was last seen on her bike at about 2 a.m. on May 19, according to Lafayette Police Department. The following morning was her brother's graduation ceremony, and her parents immediately knew there was something wrong when she didn't show for that.

Michaela's sister Charlie Shunick told the Daily Advertiser, "We just want her to come home. Anything, any clue, if anyone saw her."

The FBI have joined the search on Monday, which was also Shunick's birthday, according to the Daily Advertiser.

Police say Shunick is a 5'1" white female, with blonde hair, weighing approximately 115 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pastel, multi-colored striped shirt, light wash skinny jeans and grey shoes.

Detectives are asking anyone with any information concerning the case to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.

Please note that tarot will pick up TRENDS /VIBRATIONS of PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE - it will pick up anything that is 'out there' true news or false news - either way it can throw light on what is 'in the air' - please bear this in mind when you are reading the insights.

It is very important that 'readers' of the blog understand this, therefore one has to be very discerning when reading. Media news can put out stories that are not factual or are pre -mediated but Tarot can pick that up. It does,nt mean that tarot is wrong, it shows tarot can see what might be suggested. However when writing the tarot it may be taken as fact.

Tarot does not have all the answers or claim to solve issues. All it can do is show what it feels may be of USE or point out possibilities.

Please always read the following

ABOUT TAROT ON THIS SITE

TAROT CANNOT BE CONSIDERED AS 100 PER CENT ACCURATE BY LAW.

MICHAELA 'MICKEY' SHUNICK
1ST JUNE 2012

There are many requests at the current time for Tarot both via email and here on the blogger and this is a quick note to let you know all will be worked on and posted here. I am having to look at the 2012 cases as a matter of urgency and several requests but all other cases will be forthcoming.

In respect of Michaela there are I notice, some recent reports about a bike being found. I do not want to read all aspects of this case prior to Tarot. I will write down what I have and hope that it will help. As always please remember how Tarot works or read the important notice on it. Tarot cannot NAME locations it can only tell us what it 'sees' as possible clues. All events that Tarot suggest are from time episodes past present and future. Some thoughts will be 'white noise' or background or connected in other ways. Tarot is not considered 100 per cent accurate by the law and it is a matter of hoping something useful will be produced.

The first card I have is the three of swords. This card seems to give me the impression that Michaela might have been involved in an argument.

There are three people in this card and it does seem to point to tactless and hurtful outbursts.

Generally it may be showing that a relationship or alliance has fallen apart and the person is cut off from their home and family and feeling very isolated. This can talk about three people or a third party has caused the breakup. Either way this seems to me to have been a big bust up and Im getting the impression of being kidnapped, or withheld or just a general feeling of being severed from our usual way of life.
I would hate to say this is planned but its possible and it seems all pre meditated to me on these cards by the negativity and arguments in the previous card. So perhaps two people planned it over Michaela or the other way around.

I just see those three people and one getting away with everything or bottom line a connection to three.

I do worry sometimes about the sword cards because they ARE swords and we get a 'cutting' sensation here. It could really be someone who cuts ties but it can also refer to sharp weapons so its always an uneasy card to get. Also there are drugs/vegetation perhaps Marijuana links on occasion in the start of this journey so again its possible that could come up too.

There can also be a degree of jealousy when this card comes up too and interference by that other 'party'. At the moment Im not sure how positive this reading is but the accent is on relationship or family arguments and disputes and may involve others. I feel its telling us of that there are very unfortunate events here and hence why she has gone missing. This card can even suggest abortion or miscarriage or related problems and/or problems with the heart, ranging from palpitations to heart attacks to situations that make your heart ache with sorrow.

So I feel two other people are around this girl and it is not just that she went missing but that they or at least one other is in the picture somewhere.

This card is generally pointing East, note the THREE and bear in mind that it can give us 'rock water and stones and sometimes 'concrete' in names of places or actualities. However, West can also come up here and we do have to figure out with the combination of cards the various directions as starting -visiting and ending points. Here descriptive elements of vicinity are Mountains, Hillsides, Air force bases, airports .

Communication towers. Sandy gravely ground, saw pits, places where wood is cut or even storage places like barns or outhouses that are away from other buildings. Upstairs rooms such as bedrooms can come up or upper rooms in houses.
Its possible that church names MAY come up here or places where one would 'rest' but seems to me that Michaela might have been taking some kind of time out and that has turned permanent because plans changed.

Sometimes neurological problems can appear here that affect the nervous system and I am seeing something about a bedroom and some kind of mental upset possibly even depression. Definitely seems like some kind of relationship breakup its just whether it applies to her personally or someone around her.

Asking where Michaela is I have a number 7 and the Chariot. I always think of Chariot as a confined place or being closed in . The most obvious thought is inside a car as Chariots are vehicles after all. Im still seeing Mountains or maybe that is in a name, land that has water/stream running through. Again feeling there are two other people here who know as I can see a Map here and also Keys or a K name, if not then perhaps it refers to Quay or some kind of connection to that.

South West comes up here primarily South. Im seeing a family here so I do wonder if she is near a family or something to do with families? even her own? This card is connected to water and motherhood though one has to be careful how it is applied. I am seeing an enclosure here and 'travel' ? I feel that looking at this card and thinking about being 'withheld' it may be 'restriction' that I am seeing because here it seems that someone is 'running away from something'. You have to take this vehicle into consideration as its a key factor. Also its difficult to decide whether we are talking about 'someone else' in the picture so all things have to be considered.
North is coming up here as some kind of significant element and remember these directions can be road names as considerations too.

This connection with water come up strongly and we see anything connected with Water for example the sea, rivers and places near ponds or waters - brooks, springs, wells, wash-houses, sea shores, marshy land, etc. Cellars, cisterns, bathrooms are all part of water links and again this could be a place name and Tarot just describing or these things could appear in the vicinity which could link to Michaela or someone around her. Its important to remember that Tarot could be pointing out information linked to another.

I see a strong masculine influence also coming through.

All I can offer here is that its possible that Michaela could be found under 13 weeks. Adding these two numbers together gives us a four so that could be a month. However 1 and 3 or even 31 could be route numbers or distance numbers too. I have received this card before on a find element and often it has also brought in delays but obviously I do hope it is only a matter of weeks. Only time can tell. I feel in this card a form of deception and I did spot this earlier actually but was not sure when I was looking at it but I do think there is a deceitful element all round in these cards. I dont think we have a truthful person here, looks like a female or just a person who can rant and rage.

This card is connected to a vehicle card and this can suggest a 'car coming to stop' or even car crash and judging by the Chariot we do have a prominent vehicle in the cards. It might be Red but that is just the obvious wands colour. I feel like someone shut their mouth and said nothing or just that news is delayed . I feel there is someone who conveys false or misleading information so whatever has been said needs to be considered carefully as clearly there is something not right here about some statement or that there are elements that put people off track..

Was there a phone that could be checked? the page of wands does seem to make me feel that we should check all messages in case something was missed. I seem to sence fences/walls, a place that divides, or some 'barrier' seems to come up here. South comes up on this card, again airports can be in the vicinity and Hills but I have already seen these. Im seeing a very abusive person here as the Emperor connects to the queen and can produce a domineering and nasty character.

North comes in leaning North West - and East comes up once again as per indication on the swords card. I feel that I am seeing heat or fire, newly built land or some link to construction. Generally an area where there seems to be stables/horses /sheep or small cattle but also this card indicates that there is possibly a 'prison' element as it can refer to places where criminals hide out.

I certainly hope that Michaela will be found and the 13 or 31 figure may help. I feel that all the descriptions of 'places' should be read in together as they pop up on more then one card as similar.

If I have forgotten anything or need to add I will try to do that but this is a brief overview of what Tarot appears to give . Meanwhile I hope something in the Tarot helps in some way.

Empathy.

LINKING CARDS.

I do need to mention that as the travel link is here it is also worth looking to see if there are any railways/airports, hills or names that might somehow be attached.
There may even be a car tarpauline or a 'cover' as this could come in. Im seeing 'stars'? but the lovers card can link to the past and it makes me feel that with all the water elements I see places like 'Tennessee' though that may be quite wrong but its just that there is a big river there and water does come into some kind of landscape.

Perhaps you know of a place that might be named a water name? but her home town does come up here and for some reason the vehicle. Now the direct link to the Lovers is the six of cups which shows us standing by a bridge a white bridge and feeling a great deal of sorrow. It seems to seperate us from home therefore it gives me the impression that we are on the other side but that it is to the 'right' of us.

Church links come in through the spirituality in the cups and therefore I feel that repeats itself from the Tarot written. There is a tree name and the feeling of an island or being isolated from others. Again really just repeat information of what is already given.

Cups are generally West and there is some indication of West in the original Tarot but its a matter of combining all information together.

I also see flowers/gardens and a familiar vicinity and a link to someone in the past. I would have thought the past link is to do with family or siblings but I cannot be sure of that or how or why the family elements are connected only that they appear. To me there is some kind of problem over 'love and duty' and making the right choice ?

The Strength card brings us the roses/flowers and small animals or places where animals are names perhaps? a lion often shows on here and indicates animals that roam but also this is making me wonder whether someone is suffering from a matter of pride? rural aspects seem to be here and something 'oral' often dental or bones can show up here? a tree or island or name could also come up. I see disorientation.
North East shows and a body of water and mountains? also some hidden factors and wishes that were not quite played out in the right way.

I have a house on a hill and a family with two children but one seems to not be there, BUT it could be representing home town or town of origin or a place named with water that a car is connected to? or that someone has travelled to or from. Fisherman or references pertaining to it can also show up in these cups cards and messages to the family.

I am sorry I did not go in depth with Michaelas Tarot but I only get a chance to do brief overviews but reading back I know I should have linked up the cards a bit more thoroughly.

This last card Queen of Wands can show a very vindictive nasty female or someone who is incredibly spiteful. It is thought of as a hidden factor, meaning that this person knows something but does not decide to say anything . Sometimes its someone we work with or sometimes its just someone where we cannot work things out with that person. There is a 'red tape' element here also. Sex and weapons do come up in the wands cards and I seem to see court and legal issues coming up here and possibly a trial of some sort therefore delays about speaking up could cost somebody if they know something.

Sporting issues, gyms, football fields, and even motels could be linked maybe someone stayed at one? There is masculine energy that is cruel and for some reason I feel that more information needs to be supplied NOW. Opportunities are being thwarted in the search through fear of not coming forward. Please take into account all the elements here and be prepared that there may be quarrels and backstabbing in this case to come if it has not raised its head.

There is also something about 'entertainment' but I am not sure if that means a place where people go or not. A Cat which is black can be seen on the Queen and shows very negative energy which may have caused a problem. An accident is prevalent and one might say it is an accident that is to blame? only time will tell but Tarot will reflect all news reports whether right or wrong and we have to go with it. Fences/enclosures/walls all can come up as well as a Hill. An 'M' or a 'W' can show up regarding links to location or other connections. Also fountains/wells, any water based names. The Ace of Cups has three bells on it and Five streams of water.

Whether it means anything or not it links through to events prior to the Chariot/location setting or vehicle not to forget that card is number 7. All I can do is write things down and hope they somehow help in some areas. I cannot solve the issue by promising I know all the detail only what I get is what I can offer.

Empathy.

UPDATED WITH TAROT MAP 3 JUNE 2012

Dee has provided a map which she feels MIGHT be the area that Tarot is describing. I have not got a single clue with maps. I just post what I find, but see what you think of Dees Map. I have left the link below the Icon. Please bear in mind that this is not guaranteed and Tarot can mean somewhere else entirely.

I have looked at the maps Dee has figured out but I do wonder about 'CAT ISLAND'. Of course these just may be 'surrounding areas' and nothing to do with where this lady is but I mention possibilities.

Dee has added to Michaela's Tarot map to include Cat Island.

maps.google.com

Other possible areas that might be connected in some way to Michaela or to the situation could be Leonville and Ahart Field. Possibly church references might be Convent, or Church Point? The route 31 does interest me and all areas connected for example Oscar Rivettes road and also 7 Arpents Road. One can never say whether these areas will be helpful or not only time can tell whether they will be significant in some way or other.

Dee has sent me a map to include Church Point.

UPDATED POSSIBILITIES OR POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS

Other possibilities are that Mickey was last seen on St Landry Street and in the area is Cypress Lake and also Lot 13. I dont know if thats worth mentioning or not.

Private investigator says new developments in Mickey Shunick disappearanceThe private investigator tracking Mickey Shunick's disappearance says he has credible information about two people who could be involved in her disappearance. John Abdella says two people who don't know each other called him with almost identical descriptions. The calls were made days apart, and he believes something good will come out of this. Abdella is not releasing the descriptions. He'll notify police first.

Dee has provided this report.

The siblings of Michaela ?Mickey? Shunick, 22, of Lafayette, La. -- brother Zack Shunick, left, and sister Charlene "Charlie" Schunick -- investigate possible routes their sister traveled on her bicycle early Saturday. The senior anthropology major at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette disappeared after leaving a close friend's house on her bicycle early Saturday, May 19, 2012. (Gannett, Megan Wyatt/The (Lafayette, La.) Daily Advertiser)

Lafayette, LA (written by Megan Wyatt/The Daily Advertiser) -- Brettly Wilson has shared his account of the last time he saw his friend, Mickey Shunick, repeatedly in the past six days.
At about 2 a.m. Saturday, he says Shunick was at his home when she unlocked her bicycle, checked her can of Mace and told him goodbye.
"I walked her out the back door. I told her to be safe. I waited until she made it out of the driveway, then I closed the door, locked it and that was the last time I ever saw her," said Wilson, the last person reportedly to have had contact with Michaela "Mickey" Shunick, 22, before she vanished.
Police questioned Wilson and searched his home for clues in the disappearance of Shunick, a senior anthropology major at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette who has been missing since Saturday. They say the check of Wilson's home is standard protocol in an investigation.
Although the case has attracted help from the FBI, U.S. marshals, and state and local authorities, no solid leads have been found, and her mysterious disappearance is still classified as a missing person case. A Texas-based search and recovery team joined the effort Thursday.
Police have gathered accounts of what happened in the hours before Shunick's disappearance from Wilson and other friends of Shunick. The friends say Shunick met up with them at Artmosphere, a local bar. At about 11 p.m. Friday, she began asking if people wanted to go to Mel's Diner because she was hungry and tired. None of her friends wanted to leave the bar, they said.
Around midnight, Wilson said he offered to bike with Shunick back to his house to drop off their bicycles.
Wilson said he drove her to Taco Bell, then took her back to his home where the two ate in his kitchen. The two received calls from friends asking them to go to Mel's Diner, but Shunick said she would just bike home since she was tired and had her brother's graduation Saturday, Wilson said.
The missing woman's friends and family describe Wilson as a close friend to Shunick, noting that the two planned to move to New Orleans together this summer. Despite their plans to live together, Wilson and Shunick are not dating and have never dated, according to both Wilson and Shunick's friends.
The two have been friends for the past four years, Wilson said.
"A lot of people have asked me and told me that it's a little strange that a guy and a girl moving together to New Orleans can be totally platonic, but that's Mickey," Wilson said.
Family and friends noticed Shunick's absence at her brother's high school graduation Saturday, and Wilson has been involved in the process from the first search effort.
That contrasts with another missing-student case in Indiana, where those who saw 20-year-old Lauren Spierer of Edgemont, N.Y., in the hours before she vanished retained lawyers before talking to police. Spierer disappeared June 3 in Bloomington, Ind., on her way home from a friend's apartment after a night of partying.
Even with aid from multiple investigative agencies in and outside of Louisiana, police here have not reported a break in Shunick case.
"Nothing's off the table," said Cpl. Paul Mouton, spokesman for the Lafayette Police Department.
One of the most difficult questions Wilson said he has had to answer in the past few days is "Why did you let your close friend get on a bicycle at 2 a.m.?" It is one he also wrestles with.
"That's the one thing: I could have helped. I could have been there, and we wouldn't be here now," Wilson said as he wiped away a tear from his cheek.

This question is now being asked. Until a person is proved guilty, we do not know. 07/03/1999: Investigators believe this is around the date Pate was murdered.

09/17/1999: Lavergne marries a woman in Natchitoches, LA.

09/21/1999: Lisa Pate's body is found in the northern part of Acadia Parish.

12/24/1999: Lavergne's ex-wife accuses him, in the divorce records, of domestic violence at Fort Polk. She said she went to the ER at Fort Polk to get a CT scan after being hit several times on the head with his fists. She also says he tried to smother her. We can find no records where Lavergne was charged with this crime; the clerk says they don't keep records past eight years. They say they'll get back to us and will continue looking into it.

02/08/2000: Lavergne's ex-wife accuses him, in the divorce records, of domestic violence. She says Lavergne went to her place of employment at Doctor's Hospital and struck her in the face, grabbed her around the neck, and pushed her down.

02/09/2000: Lavergne booked into the Opelousas jail on a simple battery charge in connection with the claim made by his ex-wife. Police say he was released to Fort Polk officials, but the city clerk says they didn't get notification he was arrested, so his warrant is still active on the battery charge. It is still unclear why the warrant wasn't cleared in city court, why a court date wasn't set in Opelousas, and why a hold wasn't put on him when he was booked into Evangeline Parish two days later. As a result, this case has never gone to trial.

02/11/2000: Lavergne booked into jail in Evangeline Parish on an aggravated oral sexual battery charge where he would serve eight years.

10/16/00: A divorce is granted between Lavergne and his ex-wife in St. Landry Parish.

12/27/00: A judge grants Lavergne's ex-wife custody of their child; today that child is 11 years old.

04/09/2008: A grand jury in Acadia Parish hears a case involving a second degree murder charge against Brandon Scott Lavergne. The victim is identified as Lisa Pate The clerk said there was not enough evidence to issue a true bill or a no true bill in the case.

08/09/2008: Lavergne is released from the Evangeline Parish jail on the aggravated oral sexual battery charge.

05/19/2012, 1:48 a.m.: Mickey is caught on camera, riding her bike, on St. Landry Street. Police say between St. Landry and Blackham Coliseum, Lavergne allegedly kidnapped Mickey. Her bike's damage is consistent with being hit from behind by a vehicle.

05/19/2012, approximately 3:00 pm: According to a police report from Jefferson Parish, Lavergne says he was attacked at a gas station in the New Orleans area, repeatedly stabbed by an unknown man.

05/19/2012, 6:30 p.m.: Mickey's family reports her missing to police.

05/19/2012, 11:00 p.m.: Lavergne is interviewed by Jefferson Parish deputies in connection with an aggravated battery/robbery against him earlier that afternoon. The interview happens at a hospital in New Orleans as Lavergne is being treated, according to a police report. Lavergne can't recall where it happened.

05/25/2012: The video surveillance photos were released to the public.

05/26/2012: Mickey's bike was located under the Whiskey Bay Bridge.

05/31/2012: Lafayette Police say Lavergne's truck was found burned in San Jacinto County, TX.

05/31/2012: Montgomery County Sheriff's Department says Lavergne reports his truck missing.

06/04/2012: Don's Wholesale in Lafayette Parish says Lavergne bought a white, Z-71 pick up truck. Police say the truck is just like his previous truck, found burned in Texas.

06/14/2012: Lafayette Police get the tip the white truck of interest was found burned in Texas. Lafayette Police say it's Lavergne's truck.

07/05/2012: State Police stop Lavergne on a traffic stop in a new white truck and arrest him on a warrant related to registering as a sex offender. He's also booked on first degree murder and kidnapping charges. Police say he is not cooperating.

07/18/2012: Lavergne is indicted in the murders of Mickey Shunick and Lisa Pate.

A secondary search was being done at Whiskey Bay today when a sonar image, in the area where Mickey Shunick's bike was found, showed something that could have had relevance to Shunick case. A dive team was then called out to search the waters. It turns out that the image seen was actually some sort of wooden item, possibly a log of some sort. 60. Shunick often told family and friends she would be happy if she could simply horseback-ride for the rest of her life. Shunick's mother, Nancy Rowe, said that her daughter has been obsessed with horseback riding since her first ride on the beach at age 8. Rowe said the students at Willow Oaks Equestrian Center in Duson who took classes from Shunick looked up to her and thought she was the "greatest thing ever." DOES ANYONE KNOW IF MICKEY MOM IS REMARRIED? AS TO WHY HER NAME IS NANCY ROWE SOMETIMES AND OTHER TIMES I SEE SHUNICK.

  61. LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) -
The father of the missing UL student thinks more than one person is responsible for his daughter's disappearance. He says that person could be the missing link in the case.

An obviously shaken Tom Shunick is trying to process the chain of events that led to the arrest of Brandon Lavergne; the man police say is responsible for his daughter's disappearance. "I knew they had a suspect they thought was involved in this thing a week before the arrest was made," said Tom Shunick, Mickey Shunick's father.

Police believe Lavergne was driving the white truck following Mickey on her bicycle on May 19, 2012. It was captured on surveillance video outside the Lafayette Consolidated Government Building, the night Mickey went missing. Detectives said when fishermen found Mickey's bike at Whiskey Bay seven days later, the back tire was damaged. Mr. Shunick says he thought he had figured out what happened to his daughter.

"You can look at all the scenarios that could have happened. And this is one of them; a probable one. Somebody may have been out there, bumped her, grabbed her," said Tom Shunick.

That was just the beginning of the story. Tom later learned Lavergne was a convicted sex offender, a man who had been through the system as he put it. Just three days after the surveillance photos were released, authorities in San Jacinto County, Texas confirmed they found Lavergne's truck abandoned and burned. While investigators say they don't expect to make any more arrests in the case, Tom is convinced someone helped Lavergne.

"It was burned somewhere in Texas. Somehow he got there and got back. Did he ride with someone? Did he walk back? How did he get back?" said Tom.

Tom says he has told detectives to keep any new developments in the case to themselves. He says he just wants to know when his daughter is found.

Tom believes that authorities will find his daughter. "Maybe not alive, but they will find her."

As for what Tom has learned about his daughter's alleged kidnapper so far, he says he is not quite sure how, if convicted, Lavergne should be punished.

Meanwhile, a private investigator involved in the Shunick case is pooling additional resources.

  62. Latest Update Brandon Lavergne Accused of Domestic Abuse in 1999 Marriage

07/09/2012 10:38 PM by Maddie Garrett

New information Monday about accused kidnapper Brandon Lavergne's past. He's charged now with kidnapping and murder in the Mickey Shunick case.

In addition to a sexual assault conviction in Evangeline Parish, he's also accused of domestic abuse by a woman who was his wife for just a year, according to St. Landry Parish Court Records.

The last time Lavergne was sent to jail, his wife was awarded a divorce. Court documents show it was a brief marriage where she was scared for her safety.

Lavergne was married in Natchitoches, it lasted from September 1999 to October 2000. The couple lived in Leesville, at Fort Polk where Lavergne was a soldier.

The ex-wife claimed Lavergne physically abused her, outlining one incident just a few months after they were married in September 1999, where Lavergne allegedly hit her on the head and then tried to smother her. She stated in documents that the attack sent her to the hospital for CT scans.

Then in February of 2000, the ex-wife stated that Lavergne showed up to her work, hit her in the face, grabbed her neck and threw her down. The next day, she filed for divorce and also requested a temporary restraining order and protective orders.

The troubled marriage ended in October of 2000, when a judge granted the divorce. Lavergne was not present for the hearing because he was already in jail, convicted of aggravated oral sexual battery of another woman in Redell.

Lavergne was never convicted of any domestic abuse charges. KATC reached out to his ex-wife on the phone, she declined comment.

  63. Missing student Mickey Shunick's case to be taken up by grand jury

    Associated Press

Posted on July 11, 2012 at 6:37 AM

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Officials say a grand jury next week will consider the case involving the man accused of kidnapping and murdering college student Mickey Shunick.

Lafayette Parish District Attorney Mike Harson told the Associated Press Tuesday that Brandon Scott Lavergne's case will be considered by a grand jury July 18.

Lavergne was arrested Thursday and is being held without bail at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Shunick, a student at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, vanished May 19, just days before her 22nd birthday. She was last seen riding away from a friend's house on her bicycle.

Investigators say the white pickup truck linked to her disappearance is registered to Lavergne. They say that they can place Lavergne in and around the location where her bike was later found.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz told KLFY that the investigation into the possible grave sites is over and nothing was found.

Earlier St. Landry Parish sheriff's deputies have brought cadaver dogs to a site about two miles from the home of a man booked with murder in connection with the disappearance of Shunick.

Sheriff Guidroz says a farmer called about three mounds of dirt near his fields. The search turned up empty at all three sites.

The field is near St. Ann's Catholic Church in the community of Swords near Opelousas.

It's about two miles from the Lawtell home of Brandon Lavergne, who has been booked with aggravated kidnapping and first-degree murder of Shunick. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette student has been missing since May 19.

  76. Grand jury indicts man for murder of missing Mickey Shunick

LAFAYETTE, La. -- Two high-profile murder cases, one recent and one dating back 13 years, have been cleared with the arrest of one man, Brandon Lavergne, a convicted sex offender with a violent past.

A Lafayette grand jury formally charged Lavergne on Wednesday of killing Mickey Schunick, the ULL student who disappeared May 19 and whose body has yet to be found.

They also indicted him on murder charges for the killing of Lisa Pate, a name that made headlines back in 1999. Her body was found three months later in a field near Church Point in Acadia Parish.

In 1999, two months before Laverne allegedly killed Pate, he tied up, blindfolded and sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman.

For that, he served eight years in prison, but not before marrying a woman in September 1999 and allegedly beating and trying to suffocate her. He was never arrested in that case and the couple divorced while he was in prison.

Laverne was on probation until this past February. In May, he allegedly kidnapped and killed Shunick.

The day she disappeared he sought treatment at a New Orleans hospital with stab wounds to his chest, back, neck and hand.

“We’ve been waking for a little bit over two months to get some closure on this, and it still isn’t closed. They haven’t found the body. So if the body is out there somewhere, hopefully now with being charged with something else, maybe he’ll come clean and tell people where the body is,” said Mickey Shunick’s father, Tom Shunick.

Prosecutors said they'll ask for the death penalty in both cases.

Pate's case was one of several unsolved murders of women in the Baton Rouge and Lafayette area dating back to the mid-90s.

Duson Police say that a suspect has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Jail in connection with the disapperance of Keiosha Felix.

Police are not releasing the person’s name or charges at this time because it could jeopardize an ongoing investigation.

Keiosha disappeared on April 30, 2012 and the case was originall treated as an endangered runaway.

However, on July 23rd, Assistant Police Chief Gerald Credeur said law enforcement now believes the 15-year-old is not a runaway, as they first suspected when she disappeared on April 30.

Keiosha is described as a black female, 5″0 and approximately 120lbs. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

According to Chief Credeur, Felix’s cell phone has been turned off since that evening and she has not been on the social media website Facebook since, which is highly unusual.

Police are asking for the public assistance in relation to locating Felix. They are asking anyone who has spoken to Felix or has any firsthand knowledge of Keiosha being in the Fightinville area at a Ms. Darlene’s home or the Ossun area are asked to please contact the Duson Police Department at 337-873-6736 or 337-232-9211

"I'm terrified now standing here shaking as we speak. I've it and I've seen pan out in the past. You never know what can happen," Higginbotham said.

Church Point police confirm Higginbotham claimed Laverge was stalking her in 1999. She says her first memories with Lavergne go as far back as grade school.

"In the fifth grade he took a handful of ants and shoved them in my mouth. Then he slammed my head into a brick wall," Higginbotham said.

She also said that she and her friends were threatened by Lavergne.

"There were gestures of threats. And he made it clear he would somehow get revenge," she said.

Lavergne even moved across the street from Higginbotham. This all happened before he served eight years for oral sexual battery.

"Why did he have to ruin so many lives throughout his life? He has tortured so many people. Not only the people involved in this case, but throughout his life. And if there is one thing I could tell him right now it would be he should rot in hell for everything he has done. To not only me, but the poor Pate's woman that was found and also Mickey Shunick and her family," Higginbotham saidhttp://www.katc.com/full-coverage/searching-for-mickey-shunick/

Avery Island is surrounded on all sides by bayous (slow-moving, muddy rivers), salt marsh, and swampland; it sits about 140 miles (225 km) west of New Orleans.[6] The island was a sugar plantation formerly known as Petite Anse Island.[2] (Petite Anse means "Little Cove" in Cajun French.) Access to the island is via toll road (technically, a very low toll bridge, which charges only on inbound traffic).

    [edit] Geology

Avery Island is actually a huge dome of rock salt, three miles (5 km) long and two and a half miles (4 km) wide.[1] It was created by the upwelling of ancient evaporite (salt) deposits that exist beneath the Mississippi River Delta region. These upwellings are known as "salt domes." Avery Island is one of five salt dome islands that rise above the flat Louisiana Gulf coast.[6]

At its highest point, the island is 163 feet (50 m) above mean sea level.[6] It covers about 2,200 acres (8.9 km2) and is about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) across at its widest point.

  112. LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The family of a university student who went missing in May say they can finally begin to grieve after police positively identified a body they found earlier this week.

Police say the body discovered in Evangeline Parish was that of Michaela "Mickey" Shunick. Her family said Friday they can begin the healing process now and are asking for privacy from the media.

They say "she deserved a long and happy life filled with love and laughter" but news that the body was Shunick's has proved otherwise.

Shunick was last seen riding her bicycle away from a friend's house May 19, days before she turned 22. Brandon Lavergne was charged with aggravated kidnapping and first-degree murder in her case and with the murder of Lisa Marie Pate in July 1999.
